Kasey Kaupke

Kasey Kaupke is a successful young professional whose story echoes that of most college students: being indecisive about the right major.

She started with the intention of getting a degree in architecture, which turned into pursuing a degree in sports management.

It wasn’t until later that she decided to go all out for accounting at Oklahoma State University. In retrospect, it was an easy decision because it’s where she excelled.

“Early in my life, I learned a valuable lesson about being optimistic and adaptable to change,” she explained.

“Change is inevitable in every aspect of life, but your view of change is what’s important. We can’t control what comes our way, but we can control how we face it.”

Kasey has been with WPX for almost seven years now after starting as in internal auditor. She recently moved into a planning role as an operations analyst supporting WPX’s prized assets in the Permian oil field.

Her time at the company mirrors what many young professionals find at WPX: an opportunity to identify and embrace their interests by gaining experience in different groups.

“Development doesn’t have to be a linear path,” Kasey says. “At WPX, you can move around and learn more about yourself and where you fit the best from a career standpoint.”

Kasey works directly with the Permian team looking at capital and expense accruals. This makes her a liaison between F&A (finance and accounting) and operations.

This allows her to see both sides of the business. With her new role, she’s stepping out of her comfort zone, gaining a fresh perspective and collecting more diversity in her skills.

And there’s also the occasional fun and games at work, but always for a good cause. Kasey has played ping-pong with her colleagues over lunch to raise money for WPX’s Heart Walk campaign.

“What continues to interest me at WPX is the value that’s placed on employees. It drives me to work hard knowing that I’m valued and respected. My contributions matter.”

On a personal level, Kasey enjoys being outside with her two dogs, riding bikes and running. She’s on the board of Young Professionals in Energy and volunteers with Filling The Void, a non-profit organization that feeds the homeless.
